our Executive Director

Dear Friends and Partners:
Take a stroll through any neighborhood in this
country and you are likely to see the work of Community Action Agencies.
First established in 1964 to fight America's War on Poverty as part of
President Lyndon B. Johnson's Economic Opportunity Act, Community Action
Agencies help improve 10 million lives every year and make America a
better place to live.
Tri-County Community Action, Inc. has been
well known as a strong partner in Logan, Champaign, and Shelby counties.
But what you may not know is that we are also part of Community Action
Partnership, a national network representing a thousand Community Action
Agencies devoted to ending poverty. Community Action Partnership is the
most extensive and best-respected anti-poverty network in the nation.
People want to add meaning to their lives.
Community Action Partnership is a network for people who care. Now more
than ever, we need to let our partners, the public, and our elected
officials know that Tri-County Community Action, Inc. offers hope and an
opportunity to join in the fight against poverty.
Community Action employees, 125,000 strong, are located in virtually
every county in our nation to deliver nearly 40 poverty-fighting
initiatives like Head Start, WIC, food banks, job placement and training,
first-time home buyer programs, and alternative education for at-risk
youth. Community Action Agencies have a proven track record of helping
people help themselves and each other.
America needs to know that a thousand agencies in partnership,
community by community, have made a huge difference in the lives of our
nation: 10 million every year.
By adding "Community Action Partnership" to our
local identity, we hope to tell the media, the public, and our partners
that we believe poverty can be defeated by "Helping
People. Changing Lives."
What
is a Community
Action Agency?
Sincerely,
Denise Bergen,
Executive Director
