Who Can Receive Meals on Wheels?

Tri-County Community Action, Inc. Meals on Wheels program is designed for those who have a long or short term need for meals delivered to their home. To help with recovery from an illness, operation, or general assistance with your meals, Tri-County’s Meals on Wheels is only a phone call away.

Our service provides a nutritious mid-day meal, meeting 1/3 of the Recommended Daily Allowance for the older adult. Semi-Anuually Nutrition Education materials are also provided, keeping our participants updated on health and nutrition issues. An equally important aspect of our service is the daily stop by our dedicated drivers. In many cases, this is the only visitor our customers see in a day and soon a special relationship develops between drivers and “their” clientele.

When and how often are meals delivered?
Meals are delivered 5 days weekly or less often, based on the  participants’ need. Generally, our delivery schedule is Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. Frozen meals are also available for weekends and holidays, based on needs or desires.

How much does it cost?
Tri-County has a variety of funding sources, and during our in-home visit we will check to see if you qualify for any assistance. If you do not qualify or we have no available funding, meals are offered on a private pay basis at $4.50 per meal.

Tri-County Community Action, Inc.’s Meals on Wheels has 11 meals routes throughout Champaign & Logan Counties.

Funding & Requirements
Customers may be sponsored from a variety of sources including the Area Agency on Aging, PSA 2. This funding source requires that participants are age 60 or older, or a spouse of a qualifying individual. Customers under this service are asked for a $2.00 per meal contribution and hot meals are provided 5 days weekly.

Tri-County CAC also contracts with PASSPORT, Veterans of Champaign County, Waiver IV, and ComCare. Each of these programs have enrollment requirements and offer a variety of services.
